In Pursuit of a Free Floating Drum

Stopped by Lowe’s and got a couple of bolts and coupling nuts which I intended to use on the tom, but the bolts were too long. Measure once, buy twice. I may stick with a threaded rod for the toms anyway, however, and as in the picture, attempt to float the snare. Attaching the throw-off to the rods somehow, and not the shell, will be the biggest challenge. As it turned out, the bolts and coupler I got worked just fine with the surviving tension rods from the snare’s original setup. The wrap did not as you see. The snare is naked and cold.

The cool thing is Wac’d Drums is working on a free floating lug system that looks to be awesome unlike my minimalist redneck system.

Funny Video – The Keurig Incident

I love Keurig coffee and perhaps I’ve had too much of it. Shot this by myself so I got to use Final Cut Express to do some very basic visual effects. The stop motion was easier than I thought and I will definitely be doing it again for something. Enjoyed coming up with the music for it too. I just sat down with it trying different things on guitar and then worked drums and sound effects in until it started to feel right. Overall this was a good video for practicing several aspects of movie making.

I’d say this is worth a gander. His approach is civil and thoughtful and of course he is right that it would be nice to have these kinds of in-depth discussions more often. Especially nice is the idea he espouses that people’s moral and religious convictions should be in the discussion as opposed to the way things have become in public discourse where you’re told to leave your “personal beliefs” at the door. Maybe some day it will dawn on more and more people that everyone holds a certain position based on personal belief. They only try to justify those beliefs with different authorities.
